Some simple tips for choosing a domain name

To find your site people need to be able to remember your address and easily type it into their browser.
Aim to register the shortest name that your customers and visitors will associate with your website.
It's not a bad idea to register several similar domain names, particularly if you own a trademark for a certain name. Check the availability of .co.uk, .com, .uk, .eu, .org, .net These are the most popular domain names and by registering them it helps prevent cyber squatters causing you to lose traffic. More than one domain name can be set to point to the same website.
If you have a domain name that can easily by pluralised or miss-spelled, consider registering those as well to stop traffic going elsewhere.
Prices and rates vary between hosting companies. Some companies still sell domain names for as much as £100, others for as little as £2. Paying too much has no benefit, but beware of prices that are 'too cheap' as they will often require you to spend more on extras, or charge heavy fees to transfer out. To put that into perspective, our domains start at just £7.99 per year for UK registrations. If you have an existing UK domain it can be transferred into your account free of charge. There are no 'hidden' costs or extra charges for transfers in or out, and everything else we include with your domain name registration is completely free and accessible from your control panel.
Note: for transferring non-UK domains the Registry requires that one year be added to your registration. We will do this at a reduced cost compared to the normal renewal fee.
If you find an available domain name you want to use, you should register it as soon as possible, or risk someone else beating you to it. You do not have to have a Webmaster or an ecommerce department or a web design consultant... you don't even need a web page. Simply search for your domain name and register it yourself. Its that easy.
You can use the search box on the Domain Search page to check if a domain name is available, or sign up/login to your Cylonet account and select the domain name link, which can check one name with multiple suffixes at once.
